Bogie Goose A classic Elco Motor Launch

Bogie Goose, formerly known as Gatsby Goose, is a classic 32 foot Elco Cruisette. She is available for captained harbor cruises. As many as four passengers can embark for a single cruise. Like the rest of the fleet, this boat is available from late April through early November. Bareboat charters are not planned for Bogie Goose.

Bogie Goose was launched in May of 1932. This was the the year that the famed "Rockettes" made their debut at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. It was one year after the famed Empire State Building was completed. In 1932, the last Model A was produced, ending an era for the Ford Motor Company. The Ford had a base price of $460.00. By comparison, a 1932 Elco Cruisette, configured the same as Bogie Goose, cost $3,950.00. Needless to say, not too many were produced that year, as 1932 marked the nadir of the Great Depression. Humphrey Bogart, also known to his fans as "Bogie", was cast in "Love Affair" and "Big City Blues", and "Where the Blue of the Night", sung by Bing Crosby, and "How Deep is the Ocean?", written by Irving Berlin, were big hits.

Of some  interest, perhaps, the term "bogie", or "bogey",  is used in the Navy for an unidentified contact, such as a "bogie aircraft". Why not a "bogie goose",  as in, "Hey, Mother Goose, what kind of a boat is that, anyway?"  Elco built many cabin cruisers of this type during the first half of the last century. It is estimated that, out of approximately 7500 Elco yachts that were built, all before 1950, only about 400 are still in use, including Bogie Goose.  Elco was the same company that went on to build many of the famous wooden U.S. Navy PT boats (MTB - Motor Torpedo Boats) that were so successful in World War II, including the well known PT-109, commanded by John F. Kennedy. Why not step back in time aboard our classic Elco?
